Waterside Ecology

Independent Ecological Consultancy

Commercial Developments

Waterside Ecology delivers objective survey, assessment and monitoring for a variety of commercial projects including windfarms and hydroelectric schemes. Our services range from initial assistance with scoping of potential environmental sensitivities, to survey design, data collection, analysis, interpretation and presentation of results. We maintain close contact with our clients throughout, ensuring that our work fits their needs. By matching our field expertise with a good understanding of the ecological requirements of species of concern, and the legislation surrounding their conservation, we can provide reports that are both comprehensive and supported by high quality data.

As a small business, we can provide stand-alone services or can work within larger teams as required. Much of our work to date has entailed the provision of high quality assessment of fish and riparian species for incorporation into broader Environmental Statements. Due to the demands of EU legislation, particularly the Water Framework Directive, we are often called on to provide:

• Assessment of fish habitats and populations

• Fish rescue

• Water quality assessment using freshwater

...macro-invertebrates and macrophytes

• Freshwater pearl mussel survey

• Otter and riparian mammal surveys.

Most or all of the above may be of value to small-scale hydro and wind farm developers and we will happily tailor a package to suit your needs.
